John Cline is a retired Cleveland Police officer, U.S. Navy Seabee veteran, investigator, author, husband, father, and grandfather. His career of service spans more than three decades, including 27 years with the Cleveland Police Department, where he served in narcotics, gang investigations, major investigations, hostage negotiations, and federal task force assignments.

Before entering law enforcement, John served 6½ years on active duty in the United States Navy as a Seabee Equipment Operator, deploying overseas in support of military operations and construction missions. The lessons learned through military service, law enforcement, and life have shaped the perspective found throughout his writing.

John is the author of The Gray Haze, a memoir that explores service, sacrifice, brotherhood, resilience, and the often-unseen challenges faced by those who dedicate their lives to protecting others. Through his writing, he hopes to preserve stories, honor those who served alongside him, and provide encouragement to anyone navigating life’s difficult seasons.

Today, John continues to serve as an investigator while pursuing his passion for writing, speaking, and sharing reflections on faith, family, purpose, and perseverance. He lives in Ohio with his wife and remains actively involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren.

“When the noise fades and the uniform comes off, we’re all left with the same challenge—figuring out who we are and what truly matters.”
— John Cline

Getting back to the grind.

The last several days have been kind of rough. I've been dealing with some pretty significant back pain. If you've never suffered from herniated discs or muscle spasms, it's hard to understand just how much it can slow you down.

I've never been someone who does well being confined to a bed. Sitting still has never been my strong suit.

Anyhow, I'm positive that by tomorrow I'll be back to the grind. I'm not a fan of missing work, family events, or anything else life has to offer. Being bedridden is definitely not for me.

I had a conversation with a friend today, and it got me thinking about a few things:

  1. We don't always choose our own destiny.
  2. God is ultimately in charge of our lives and decides when and what happens.
  3. Most news is biased toward one belief or another.
  4. Most people simply want government to run smoothly—that's why we vote.
  5. People need to learn the difference between a need and a want.

Sorry I don't have much more for today. I hope you enjoy your week.

And remember—tell the people you love that you love them today. None of us are promised tomorrow.
