John Cline is a retired Cleveland Police officer, U.S. Navy Seabee veteran, investigator, author, husband, father, and grandfather. His career of service spans more than three decades, including 27 years with the Cleveland Police Department, where he served in narcotics, gang investigations, major investigations, hostage negotiations, and federal task force assignments.
Before entering law enforcement, John served 6½ years on active duty in the United States Navy as a Seabee Equipment Operator, deploying overseas in support of military operations and construction missions. The lessons learned through military service, law enforcement, and life have shaped the perspective found throughout his writing.
John is the author of The Gray Haze, a memoir that explores service, sacrifice, brotherhood, resilience, and the often-unseen challenges faced by those who dedicate their lives to protecting others. Through his writing, he hopes to preserve stories, honor those who served alongside him, and provide encouragement to anyone navigating life’s difficult seasons.
Today, John continues to serve as an investigator while pursuing his passion for writing, speaking, and sharing reflections on faith, family, purpose, and perseverance. He lives in Ohio with his wife and remains actively involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren.
“When the noise fades and the uniform comes off, we’re all left with the same challenge—figuring out who we are and what truly matters.”
— John Cline
